Stronger home, lower insurance, and the state may share the cost
Hurricane hardening upgrades like impact-rated openings and stronger roof connections do two things at once: they protect your home when the weather turns, and they can qualify you for wind mitigation discounts on your homeowners insurance that keep paying you back every year.
The My Safe Florida Home program was created to encourage exactly this work. When funded, it has provided free wind mitigation inspections and matching grants toward qualifying improvements for eligible homeowners. Program funding is set by the legislature and opens in application windows, so availability changes, but the upgrades make sense either way.
Three steps from inspection to stronger home
Free wind mitigation inspection
Apply through the state and a qualified inspector evaluates your home, then gives you a report listing which upgrades would strengthen it and may qualify for grant money.
Grant approval
Eligible homeowners have received matching grants toward recommended improvements, historically up to program limits set by the state. The state confirms your amount and eligibility, not your contractor.
Licensed contractor does the work
Program work must be performed by properly licensed contractors. That is where we come in: license CBC1268994, with the documentation the program requires.
Upgrades the program has covered
- Opening protection, including impact-rated windows and doors
- Garage door reinforcement or replacement with wind-rated doors
- Roof-to-wall connection improvements such as hurricane clips and straps
- Roof deck attachment and secondary water resistance improvements
- Exterior door upgrades to code-rated assemblies

My Safe Florida Home is a state program, and eligibility, grant amounts, and application windows are controlled by the State of Florida, not by us. Funding comes and goes with legislative budgets. Check current status and apply at MySafeFLHome.com.
