Your Bathroom Vanity Is Working Way Too Hard

Your bathroom vanity holds your sink. Stores towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, hair dryers, makeup, and about a hundred other things. Sets the whole look and feel of your bathroom. When it’s falling apart or bursting at the seams, your entire morning routine suffers.

Last week we replaced a vanity in an Ocala home. The cabinet doors wouldn’t close anymore. The drawers stuck. The countertop had water stains that wouldn’t come out. The homeowner was fighting for 12 inches of usable counter space while her husband’s stuff took over the rest. She was done.

We installed a new 60 inch double vanity with drawers that actually glide open, two sinks so they’re not fighting for space, and a quartz countertop that looks brand new every time you wipe it down. She sent us a photo a week later. Everything that used to be crammed on the counter now had a proper place. Her morning routine went from frustrating to functional.

That’s what a good vanity does. It organizes your life. Makes your bathroom look finished instead of cobbled together. Gives you counter space you can actually use.

Florida Legacy Construction has been installing bathroom vanities throughout Marion County since 2008. We’re based in Wildwood, licensed (CBC1268994), and we know exactly what works in Florida bathrooms. We’ve done everything from simple vanity swaps to complete custom builds.

Here’s what you need to know about bathroom vanities for your Marion County home.

Types of Bathroom Vanities We Install

Stock Vanities (Ready to Install)

These come in standard sizes. 24, 30, 36, 48, 60 inches wide. You pick one that fits your space. They arrive assembled or ready to assemble. Available at home improvement stores or we can order quality ones for you.

Cost runs $300 to $1,500 for the vanity itself. Installation adds $500 to $1,000 depending on plumbing work needed. This is a good option for straightforward replacements in Ocala homes where you’re just swapping old for new without changing the layout.

We installed a 36 inch stock vanity in Silver Springs Shores last month. White painted finish, soft-close drawers, included countertop and sink. Looked great. Cost $1,800 total installed. Done in one day.

Semi-Custom Vanities

These give you more choices. Different wood finishes, hardware options, drawer configurations, decorative details. They still come in set widths but you can customize features to match your style.

Cost runs $800 to $2,500 for the vanity. Installation adds $600 to $1,200. Most Marion County homeowners doing a bathroom remodel choose something in this range. You get quality construction with some personal touches.

Custom Built Vanities

Built exactly for your space. Any size, any height, any configuration you want. We build these when your bathroom has odd dimensions or you want something specific that doesn’t exist in catalogs.

Cost runs $2,000 to $6,000 or more depending on size and materials. Takes longer because everything is made to order. But you get furniture-quality construction and a vanity that fits your space perfectly.

We did a custom vanity in Marion Oaks for a bathroom with an angled wall. Standard vanities wouldn’t fit. We built one that followed the wall angle and maximized every inch of space. Looked like it was always meant to be there.

Floating Vanities

These mount to the wall with no legs touching the floor. Makes bathrooms feel bigger because you see more floor. Easier to clean underneath. Works great in modern designs or small spaces.

Popular in Marion County bathrooms. Costs about the same as regular vanities but installation requires proper wall mounting to handle the weight. We reinforce walls as needed so they’re rock solid.

Double Vanities

Two sinks, one long vanity. Perfect for couples getting ready at the same time. No more fighting for mirror space or counter space. Usually 60 to 72 inches wide minimum.

Cost runs $1,200 to $4,000 for the vanity plus $1,000 to $2,000 for installation. You need enough wall space and room to move around comfortably. Very popular in Ocala master bathrooms.

Choosing the Right Size for Your Marion County Bathroom

Measure before you fall in love with a vanity. You need to know what actually fits.

Small bathrooms under 40 square feet usually fit 24 to 36 inch vanities. Medium bathrooms (40 to 75 square feet) can handle 36 to 48 inches. Large master bathrooms over 75 square feet have room for 60 inch double vanities or bigger.

Leave at least 21 inches of space in front of the vanity. You need room to stand and move around. Code requires it. Common sense demands it. Leave a few inches on each side if possible. Makes the bathroom feel less cramped.

Height matters more than people think. Standard vanities are 30 to 32 inches tall. Comfort height vanities are 34 to 36 inches. Taller is easier on your back when brushing teeth or washing your face. Better for taller people. We install mostly comfort height in Marion County now because people prefer them once they try them.

Materials That Last in Florida Humidity

Florida humidity destroys cheap bathroom cabinets. Wood swells and warps. Particle board dissolves. Finishes peel and bubble. You need materials that can handle moisture.

Solid Wood

Real wood cabinets look beautiful and last decades if built right. Oak, maple, cherry all work. Needs proper finish to protect against moisture. Costs more but worth it for quality that lasts.

Plywood Construction

Plywood is layers of wood glued together. Stronger than solid wood in some ways. Resists warping better. Most quality vanities use plywood cabinet boxes with solid wood doors and drawer fronts. This combination performs great in Florida bathrooms.

MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)

Compressed wood fibers. Smooth surface that takes paint beautifully. Cheaper than solid wood or plywood. Works in bathrooms if it has proper waterproof finish. We use this for painted vanities sometimes. Not as durable as plywood long-term.

What to Avoid

Particle board is junk. It swells like a sponge when wet and falls apart. Never use particle board in a Florida bathroom. It’s cheap for a reason. Ends up costing more when you replace it in five years.

Finishes for Central Florida

Painted finishes hold up well if done properly. Multiple coats with proper sealing. Stained wood shows natural grain and looks more traditional. Both work in Florida as long as they’re sealed against moisture.

Popular colors in Ocala right now are white, gray, navy blue, and natural wood tones. White makes small bathrooms feel bigger. Dark colors look dramatic in large bathrooms with good lighting.

Countertop Choices for Your Vanity

The countertop sits on the vanity. Holds your sink. Gets wet constantly. Gets hit with toothpaste, makeup, hair products, cleaning chemicals. Needs to handle all of it without staining or falling apart.

Quartz – Our top recommendation for Marion County bathrooms. Looks like natural stone but doesn’t need sealing. Resists stains and water damage. Easy to clean. Costs $60 to $120 per square foot installed. Worth every penny for performance and looks.

Granite – Real stone cut from quarries. Every slab looks different. Beautiful and durable. Needs sealing once a year to prevent stains. Costs $50 to $100 per square foot installed. Classic choice that holds value.

Marble – Fancy and expensive. Looks amazing. Stains easily. Etches from acidic products like some hairsprays and cleaners. High maintenance. Costs $75 to $150 per square foot. Only for people who love the look enough to baby it.

Solid Surface – Man-made material like Corian. Comes in many colors. Non-porous so it resists staining. Minor scratches can be buffed out. Costs $50 to $90 per square foot. Good middle option between laminate and stone.

Laminate – Budget friendly option. Looks decent. Won’t last as long as stone or solid surface. Can chip or peel over time. Costs $20 to $40 per square foot. Fine for rental properties or tight budgets. Not what we recommend for long-term quality.

Storage Solutions That Actually Work

Good storage makes or breaks a bathroom. You need space for towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, hair tools, makeup, medicines, and everything else that lives in bathrooms.

Drawer Organizers

Dividers inside drawers keep small items organized. No more digging through jumbled makeup and hair ties. Most quality vanities offer these built-in or as add-ons. Worth getting.

Pull-Out Shelves

Shelves that slide out so you can reach items in back. Game changer for deep cabinets. No more getting on your knees to find things pushed to the back corner.

Built-In Hampers

Laundry hamper built into the vanity cabinet. Hides dirty towels and clothes. Keeps bathrooms looking cleaner. Popular in Ocala master bathrooms. Adds maybe $200 to vanity cost.

Medicine Cabinets

Recessed into wall or surface mounted. Perfect for medicines, toothbrushes, daily essentials. Frees up counter space. We install these with most vanity projects. Makes a big difference in usable space.

Linen Towers

Tall cabinets for towels and linens. Can match your vanity or be separate. Essential if you don’t have a hallway linen closet. Keeps everything organized and in one place.

What Vanity Installation Costs in Marion County

Basic Stock Vanity: $800 to $2,500 Total

Includes stock vanity with top and sink. Basic installation with minimal plumbing changes. Usually done in one day. Good for simple replacements where you’re not changing layout.

Mid-Range Vanity: $2,000 to $5,000 Total

Semi-custom vanity with quartz or granite top. Undermount sink for cleaner look. Some plumbing relocation if needed. New faucet and hardware. Takes one to two days. This is what most Ocala homeowners choose for bathroom remodels.

High-End Custom Vanity: $4,000 to $10,000+ Total

Custom built vanity sized exactly for your space. Premium countertop material. High-end fixtures and hardware. Custom lighting. Extensive storage features. Takes three to five days including custom build time.

Double Vanity Installation: $3,000 to $8,000 Total

Long vanity with two sinks. Two sets of plumbing. More countertop square footage. More cabinet space. Takes two to three days for complete installation.

What Affects the Cost

Size matters. Bigger vanities cost more. Custom sizing costs more than standard sizes. Solid wood costs more than MDF or particle board.

Countertop material makes a big difference. Laminate is cheapest. Quartz and granite mid-range. Marble most expensive.

Plumbing changes add cost. Moving drain location or supply lines requires more labor. If we’re opening walls anyway for other work, plumbing changes are easier.

Sink Styles and Mounting Options

Undermount Sinks – Mounted under the countertop. Creates clean look with no rim. Easy to wipe water and debris directly into sink. Works with stone or solid surface countertops. Most popular choice in Marion County bathroom remodels.

Drop-In Sinks – Rim sits on top of counter. Easy to install. Works with any countertop material including laminate. Less expensive than undermount. Still looks good if you choose quality sink.

Vessel Sinks – Sit on top of counter like a bowl. Very modern look. Some people love them. Others find them impractical because the sink sits so high. Uses more counter space. Good for powder rooms where functionality matters less.

Integrated Sinks – Sink and counter are one piece. No seams or cracks for water and gunk to collect. Very easy to clean. Usually solid surface or cultured marble material. Popular choice for easy maintenance.

Faucet and Hardware Selection

Faucets and hardware finish your vanity. They’re functional and decorative. Quality matters because you use them every single day.

Finish Options – Chrome is classic and affordable. Brushed nickel resists water spots better. Oil-rubbed bronze looks traditional. Matte black is very modern. All finishes work in Florida bathrooms. Pick what matches your style.

We recommend sticking with one finish throughout the bathroom. Faucet, cabinet hardware, towel bars, toilet paper holder all matching. Creates cohesive look instead of random.

Faucet Styles – Single-handle faucets are easiest to use. One lever controls water temperature and flow. Widespread faucets have separate handles for hot and cold. More traditional look. Wall-mounted faucets are dramatic but require plumbing in the wall.

Brands we recommend are Moen, Delta, Kohler. Good quality. Available parts if something needs replacing years later. Warranty support. Worth spending a bit more for reliability.

Common Vanity Installation Questions

Can you install a bigger vanity in my small bathroom?

Maybe. We measure carefully and consider door swing, toilet location, shower entry. Sometimes we can fit a slightly larger vanity. Sometimes the space truly maxes out at what’s there. We’ll give you honest assessment of what fits safely and comfortably.

Depends on the flooring type. Tile usually goes under the vanity so you can move or replace the vanity later without exposing unfinished floor. Vinyl plank can go either way. We coordinate with flooring installers for best sequence.

Some do. Some don’t. Stock vanities often include basic countertop and sink. Semi-custom and custom vanities usually don’t. You choose countertop and sink separately for exactly what you want. We explain what’s included in any quote.

Quality vanities with solid wood or plywood construction last 20+ years in Florida bathrooms if properly maintained. Cheap particle board vanities fail in 5 to 10 years. You get what you pay for with bathroom vanities.

Installation Process and Timeline

Here’s what actually happens when we install a new bathroom vanity in your Marion County home.

We start by removing your old vanity. Turn off water, disconnect plumbing, remove the old cabinet and countertop. Takes a few hours usually. We haul away all the old stuff.

If we’re moving plumbing locations, that work happens next. New drain position or supply line locations. We make sure everything meets code. Marion County inspectors check plumbing work.

Then the new vanity goes in. We level it carefully. Shim as needed. Secure it to wall studs so it’s rock solid. Connect all plumbing. Install faucet and sink.

Countertop installation varies by material. Pre-made tops install same day. Custom stone tops need to be templated first, then fabricated, then installed a week or two later.

Simple vanity replacement takes one day if countertop is ready. Custom installations or projects requiring plumbing changes take two to three days. Custom stone countertops add a week or two for fabrication.

We clean up completely. Test everything to make sure no leaks. Show you how to care for your new vanity and countertop.

Is a New Vanity Right for Your Bathroom?

New vanities make sense when your current one is falling apart. Doors won’t close. Drawers stick. Water damage on cabinet or countertop. These problems don’t get better. They get worse.

They make sense when you need more storage or counter space. If you’re constantly fighting for space, a bigger or better organized vanity solves that daily frustration.

They make sense when you’re updating your bathroom anyway. If you’re replacing tile or doing other remodel work, adding a new vanity makes the whole bathroom feel finished and cohesive.

New vanities make sense for resale value too. Dated vanities make entire bathrooms look old. Updated vanities make bathrooms feel fresh and modern. Buyers in Marion County notice these details.

Florida Legacy Construction has installed hundreds of bathroom vanities throughout Marion County. Ocala, Silver Springs Shores, Marion Oaks, Belleview, everywhere. We’re licensed (CBC1268994), insured, and we know what works in Florida bathrooms.
